A companion for your decisions

ATAI Trade Companion is an English-language MT5 desktop assistant for your manual trading routine. Choose a strategy, check its conditions, record your mindset and calculate a position size from your own stop-loss price.

It does not generate entry signals, open orders, place stops, close trades or prevent you from trading. Readiness suggestions are based on the choices you enter, not an independent inspection of your strategy. You stay in control of every order in MetaTrader.

Use it on any supported chart symbol and timeframe. One licence is linked to one MT5 account and its exact broker server. The licence and online features require an internet connection.

Install and activate

  1. Download the single ATAI_Trade_Companion_MT5_v1_00.ex5 file from My downloads after purchase, or while your ATAI Journal subscription is active. The panel is embedded; no separate indicator installation is needed.
  2. In the MT5 terminal you actually use, choose File → Open Data Folder. Copy the file into MQL5 → Experts. In Navigator, right-click Expert Advisors → Refresh, then drag ATAI Trade Companion onto your chart.
  3. Open your ATAI account → Downloads & licences → Manage licence. Enter your MT5 login number and exact broker server. Copy the licence ID into InpLicenseID in the EA Inputs. No trading password belongs in the licence field.
  4. Open Tools → Options → Expert Advisors. Enable Allow WebRequest for listed URL and add https://atai.ca. Reattach the EA or allow the next check. The footer should show Licence active. DLL imports are not required.
  5. This is a desktop MT5 tool; it cannot be installed inside the MT5 phone app. Keep the desktop terminal or VPS running and connected. If MT5 reports an unsupported EX5 version, update the terminal through your broker.

Required: allow the ATAI connection

The same HTTPS permission is used for licence verification, the ATAI economic calendar and optional Journal annotations. Add the site origin below, not the public news page or a product link.

Open Tools → Options → Expert Advisors → Allow WebRequest for listed URL. Click Add new URL, paste the address and press OK. An expired or mismatched licence must be corrected in your ATAI account. A network error is different from a valid calendar with no upcoming events.

Choose a strategy and complete its checklist

Choose Trend pullback, Breakout & retest, Range reversal, Liquidity sweep, Market structure & FVG, or your own custom strategy. Each preset opens a relevant checklist. These are prompts for your own review, not automatic confirmations from market data.

Tick only conditions you have checked. Changing the strategy resets its checklist. The Mindset & note step lets you choose Calm, Focused, Patient, Tired, Angry or Rushed and add an optional short entry note.

If conditions are incomplete or you select an unfavourable mindset, the panel suggests waiting or lowering risk. It never blocks an order. Your selections remain in use for later manual entries until you change them; review them before each new trade.

Calculate risk before placing the order

Choose Calculate buy or Calculate sell. Enter the intended stop-loss price, then select Equity %, Cash amount or Fixed lots. Entry is estimated from the current executable quote for the chosen side.

For example, 1% of an account equity of 10,000 is a risk budget of 100 in that account’s currency. A CAD account calculates CAD risk, not USD risk. The suggested lot size uses the symbol’s broker specifications and your estimated round-trip commission, rounded down to the broker lot step.

Fixed lots displays estimated loss at the chosen stop rather than selecting a risk-budgeted volume. Spread, commissions, currency conversion, slippage and execution can change the actual outcome. If the minimum lot exceeds your budget or the broker data is unavailable, the calculator explains why it cannot give a valid result.

Place the actual order and protective stop yourself in MetaTrader. The optional chart line belongs to the calculator; it does not place a broker stop-loss.

From MetaTrader to your Journal, automatically

An active ATAI Journal subscription includes one Trade Companion licence for exactly the same access period. A three-month Journal purchase includes three months of Companion access. Existing subscribers receive the remaining time of their subscription. Renewing Journal extends that included licence; buying Companion alone does not include Journal.

In ATAI Journal → Accounts & connections, connect the same MT5 account and exact server as the Companion licence. Use the same ATAI website login for both. The normal Journal connection imports broker history; Companion adds the pre-entry context to the matching trade.

For manual entries on the chart symbol, the selected strategy, emotions, checklist and short note are queued automatically. When Journal receives the matching broker deal, it attaches the context to that trade. No account password is sent by Companion. Existing manually written note fields are preserved. Trades opened by other EAs are not annotated.

For pending orders, keep Companion running when they fill. Each chart captures its own symbol. Keep only one Companion instance on each symbol to avoid competing assessments. Notes can wait for the next broker-history refresh; this is not an instant-tick synchronization guarantee.

Journal remains optional. Without a subscription, the checklist, risk calculator and calendar continue to work normally. A local snapshot is saved on your computer; it is not automatically uploaded as a Journal image. The short pre-entry note is sent only when optional Journal sync is enabled through your subscription and matching account.

News and session progress

The News tab reads the ATAI calendar and includes all currencies, irrespective of the chart symbol. High-impact events are shown by default; medium and low impact can be added in Inputs. Event times use your computer’s timezone.

The warning lead time is adjustable. Optional popups and MT5 mobile notifications remind you of upcoming events; they do not suspend trading. For mobile alerts, configure your MetaQuotes ID under MT5 Tools → Options → Notifications.

Session cards show time progress with a green-to-red transition toward the end of each session. These are general market-session guides, not a guarantee that a particular broker or instrument is open on a holiday.

A successful refresh with no matching events is shown clearly. If a request fails or the calendar is stale, the panel reports that condition instead of implying there is no news.

When something needs attention

Licence inactive: verify the licence ID, subscription, MT5 login number and exact broker server on ATAI. Switching accounts requires updating the licence binding within its available change allowance.

Journal waiting for history: the note has been received but its broker deal has not arrived yet. Keep the matching account connected. Journal account not connected: add that account in Accounts & connections. A standalone Companion licence does not activate a Journal subscription.

Risk unavailable: wait for a live quote and symbol specifications, then check the stop-loss side, distance, account currency and minimum lot. Invalid inputs are not treated as a confirmed risk estimate.

Panel too small: increase the chart height or adjust the panel width. The minus button collapses the panel. Text that does not fit retains its full tooltip.

Trading involves risk. This tool supports a review process and does not promise profitable decisions or limit your losses. Test the workflow on a demo account before relying on it.

To keep the panel readable, native history arrows are temporarily hidden on this chart while the panel is expanded. Collapsing or removing Companion restores the previous chart display. Your account history is never changed.
